Our Services
Todd Washburn Services
Todd Washburn Solutions (TWS) offers several levels of service, designed to accommodate the differing needs and circumstances of our clients.  Part of our Introductory Process (see “What to Do Next” page) is to determine which service best suits our client’s needs and wants.

We’d like to provide you a brief overview of each service and some examples of circumstances for which it might be appropriate.  More detail is provided in our Introductory Kit and during the Introductory Consultation meeting.

Targeted Planning:

This type of engagement focuses on or targets a specific core area of financial need. It’s not designed to be a broad, holistic review of the client’s finances.  It might be a discussion about whether a type of insurance is appropriate or a review of a portfolio.  It could be a second-opinion consultation or an analysis of a real estate investment opportunity.  Whatever it is, it is of limited scope and duration.  It usually lasts no more than 1 or 2 meetings and is billed on an hourly basis.

Traditional Financial Plan:

We work with you to develop a financial plan that you can then implement.  We’ll review the various parts of your financial situation- debt/spending/saving, insurance coverage, taxes, estate plan, goals and more- to make sure they integrate well with no gaps or omissions.  You’ll receive a written plan as well as a custom Action Checklist which you can follow.  This engagement may involve 4 or so meetings over a 2-4 month period.  Traditional plan clients often check-in for reviews or updates.  They also have the option to upgrade to a Life Plan.  This service is done on a fixed-fee basis which is determined before work begins.

Life Plan:

A Life Plan combines the elements of a Traditional Financial Plan with insight gained from exploring non-monetary issues that often influence one’s personal and professional financial actions.

We help you explore, clarify, and quantify your goals- probably in a way you never have before.  Through this work we hope to better understand your hopes, dreams, goals and values- so a more customized and nuanced plan can be developed.

We may cover in our work:

  • Why you do what you do with money
  • How to better restructure your finances to achieve your goals
  • How to align your lifestyle with your income
  • Finding common ground between spouses and partners when there’s a difference of opinion or conflicting goals

This is a year-long engagement, renewable year-to-year.  During this time we will work on goal-setting exercises, risk tolerance surveys, develop a written plan and a detailed Action Checklist.  An important element here is:  we will assist you to implement the recommendations.  This may mean helping you to develop an estate plan before going to an attorney, purchasing the proper type and amount of life or disability insurance (we receive no commissions from any purchase), or working with you to develop and follow a Spending Plan to build savings and move towards your goals.  We provide financial education throughout the engagement, making you a better educated, better informed financial consumer.

This engagement often appeals to people looking for an on-going relationship with a trusted advisor, as well as those working to achieve a balanced life and perhaps make a difference in their family, profession and/or community. It too is done on a fixed-fee basis.

Wealth Management:

Our Wealth Management engagement is a service that can be attractive to the busy professional, the traveling retiree, or anyone who doesn’t want or feel comfortable overseeing their investment portfolio or who wants the benefit of professional help.  What sets this service apart is that it isn’t just investment management services.  It doesn’t focus solely on the portfolio and what to buy and what to sell.  Instead, our Wealth Management process integrates our Life Planning services with management of your investment assets.

The integration is what makes this special.  It meshes the two keys to financial success- clear and quantifiable goals and disciplined oversight of the resources funding the goals.  The Life Planning process allows us to build a financial plan around your goals and personal values.  From that we can determine the necessary investment rate of return and a corresponding asset allocation.  That’s where our Our Investment Philosophy takes over, implementing the target allocation, developing an Investment Policy Statement to guide our work, and monitoring the results.  And rather than looking at results in a vacuum or compared to some general guideline, we can monitor your progress towards your goals as put forth in the Life Plan.  We integrate the goals and the money, going back and forth to make sure the portfolio supports the goals, and altering it if necessary as your goals and needs change.

This is by its nature an on-going relationship.  Meetings during a year may focus in some cases on planning issues (estate or insurances reviews) while others are specific to the portfolio (review of progress, discussion of changes).  The Life Planning and Investment Management services are likewise integrated into a single flat fee which is calculated on an annual basis.
